This is a seminar recording that provides powerfully advanced spiritual and existential techniques, both ancient and newly developed, to address issues of anxiety and stress. These techniques are aimed at directly producing joy, well being, and a sense of freedom and liberation. They are designed to be used in sessions, as homework for clients, and by therapists for their own personal growth.

At the basis of these techniques is an established model of therapeutic change that also serves as a model for spiritual transformation. There is very little theory here. The emphasis is on technique and practice, in an experiential setting, with the goal of transcending routine thought and mind patterns toward states of inspiration and deep spiritual fulfillment.

This is not a simple program for mindfulness or other forms of yoga or meditation but one that begins with these essential techniques and goes well beyond. The goal of the presentation is to show how a stabilized self or sense of being can not only better tolerate anxiety and stress but be able to use them to develop even more stability of self, and allow states of joy to enter into one’s life.

OBJECTIVES
  • Apply little known techniques derived from Asian therapies designed to produce states of joy and serenity for both clients and therapists.
  • Utilize a variety of effective meditation techniques with clients and oneself.
  • Learn the keys to transcendent spiritual experiences.
  • Make use of liberating cognitive and affective approaches to spiritual issues with clients.
  • Apply a wide range of empirically informed existential and spiritual techniques for dealing with anxiety.
  • Help clients and oneself to enhance and expand their essential sense of being.
  • Learn to reshape and reframe disturbing memories and images.
  • Help clients and oneself gain a stronger and more established sense of self.
  • Apply advanced existential techniques designed to produce a deep sense of well being for both clients and therapists.

Fred is the author of the book, Therapy with Difficult Clients, Using the Precursors Model to Awaken Change, published by the American Psychological Association. His work is internationally known.

Fred’s interest in spirituality stems from his study and practice of various Asian and some Christian meditative techniques for nearly 40 years. As a result of this study and practice, Fred has also adapted and developed a wide variety of spiritual and existential techniques designed to alleviate and transform anxiety and depression. These are based on his study of such Asian approaches as Buddhism, Yoga, Hinduism, and Taoism. He is especially interested in ecstatic states of joy and well-being that often result from these practices. In addition, he studied existentialism and phenomenology as a student of the great philosopher, Martin Heidegger, and has been able to integrate Eastern and Western psychologies. A seasoned world traveler, Fred spent nearly two years studying many remote and varied cultures in Asia.
