SHAN GUISINGER, PHD

Shan Guisinger, Ph.D., is a practicing clinical psychologist who has worked with eating disorders for 28 years. She was trained in evolutionary biology before receiving a doctorate in clinical psychology from UC Berkeley and completing postdoctoral work at Yale University's Eating Disorders Clinic and Department of Psychiatry. Shan maintains a private practice in Missoula, Montana. She is also a faculty affiliate for the University of Montana in Missoula.

Dr. Guisinger synthesizes research from the biological and social sciences with clinical experience from her practice. She has published major theoretical articles on evolution and psychology in The American Psychologist and Psychological Review. Her evolutionary theory of anorexia nervosa, the Adapted-to-Flee-Famine Hypothesis, was highlighted in the American Psychological Association's news magazine, The Monitor.
